Throwing it back to this cute photo of Jon and Kai!

First off CONGRATULATIONS, if you are a new mama to be, and stumbled on this page. I hope you find it HELPFUL, as you prepare for your little blessing to come :)

Here are seven ways Jon and I have been able to save some money…which will continue with baby #2 (due end of July 2020)

Be sure to share in the comments what ways you’ve been able to save, and send to all your soon to be mama friends! xoxo, Brittany

#1 Beware the Baby Registry List

Don’t throw it out completely…haha…but be careful when looking at one for too long.

Anyone else get overwhelmed with choices?! I literally turn into a deer caught in headlights…you should have seen me when we went to BUY BUY Baby to look at carseats recently.

Jon and I ended up getting 1/3 of the stuff on the “recommended” registry lists.

Sit down with your spouse and really think about YOUR lifestyle, and how you function as a family. What are the items you’ll be using on a regular basis?

Also, be careful in seeing your friends/ social media “mamas” and seeing what they have, and thinking you need it too.

Everyone is different :)

Sidenote: If you are having a Baby Shower and want to put a fun item on there…go ahead :)

#2 Once Upon a Child

My sister-in-law told me about this GEM of a find!

It’s super fun, to get all the new baby clothes…but leave that one for gifts from others, and baby showers.

I have SAVED so much money getting a majority of Kai’s clothes at Once Upon A Child.

Your baby grows so MUCH over the course of their first two years.

I’ve been able to find some great items, by some really nice brands for like $2!

Take your time and dig around. I sometimes size up, so she can wear it longer too.

Same for shoes! I found three pairs of Adidas Shoes for like $10 (normally priced at $35 each). I threw them in the washer when I got home, and they looked brand new :)

#3 Off BRAND Wipes

We use to buy Water Wipes…but then after a while, we looked at some other options and tried Amazon’s Brand. It was so much cheaper, and just as effective.

This might be a personal preference for you…but it was one area we are able to save.

AMAZON BABY WIPES

I know another way is to go with CLOTH DIAPERS, or make your own WIPES too.

#4 Gender Neutral Items

This can go multiple different ways!

We bought, or put things on our registry that may be used by Kai, and any future kiddos, in more gender neutral colors, and prints.

Pack-N-Play High Chair

Car Seat Some Clothing

Sheets etc.

Towels

That way if we end up having a Boy later on, they can still rock the same things!

#5 SECOND Hand for Bigger Items

This is another personal preference…but once again sit down with your spouse and talk about what items you want to buy “NEW”, and what items you could get Second Hand.

Jon and I knew our Jogging Stroller was going to be probably the biggest ticket item, and we were getting it new.

(We’ve both together have put over 1,000 miles on it since Kai has been born)

But items we weren’t going to use a lot (Pack and Play, Carrier, Diaper Table, etc.) we looked for second hand, but great condition.

Check out your Facebook Marketplace, or Local MOPS, or Mom Groups, Once Upon a Child, for these items!

#6 Baby-Led Weaning

Personal Preference again! haha Truth: didn’t really know there was a “term” for what we were doing.

When Kai was old enough to start trying out food. I think we used “traditional” baby food for like a week.

After that we just started mushing up whatever was on the menu for us for dinner, and then we’d give her samples of a new item, after a few days of testing it out with her.

We ended up not ever getting “baby food” after that. From then on, Kai eats whatever we are eating for dinner.

Definitely look it up. Obviously there are caveats too with allergies. But, this definitely saved a ton of money for us.

#7 Registry Completion Discount

So if you’ve made a Baby Registry…You’ve probably used Amazon, or Buy Buy Baby.

About two months, or a month before your “DUE” Date…they’ll send you a 15% discount coupon for the items remaining on your registry.

Not quite sure the logistics, but definitely keep that in mind…if you are wanting a certain item, and can snag a discount on it later on!
